The driver of the sedan was airlifted to Defiance Regional Medical Center and later transferred to ProMedica Toledo Hospital; his injuries were assessed as being non-life-threatening. The driver of the pickup was also transported to Defiance Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have not released a theory about the cause of the accident, although their first report eliminated alcohol and drug impairment as possible causes. Both drivers were using seat belts.
