Police were continuing to investigate a serious motorcycle accident in East Toledo that claimed one life and left 2 others hospitalized.
According to reports, the accident happened at an urban intersection and involved a motorcycle and a pickup.
Police were not prepared to state that the precise cause of the accident; however, they did say that they had detained the driver of the pickup and were asking him questions. Police would not say whether drugs or alcohol were involved in this accident.
The driver of the pickup was one of the 2 people hurt in the accident, but police said they expected the driver to survive.
Of the 2 people on the motorcycle, 1 died at the scene of the accident. Rescue workers took the other rider to a nearby hospital. The extent of the person’s injuries was not known.
Again, it is important to note that police have not firmly laid responsibility on either driver for this tragic motorcycle accident.
However, there could be any number of possible causes for this accident. For instance, the driver of the pickup could have engaged in some criminal activity, like reckless driving or driving under the influence.
Even if it turns out that is not the case, however, motorcycle unawareness is a problem especially at intersections. Even otherwise attentive drivers sometimes just are not looking out for smaller vehicle like motorcycles. Even if they are, these drivers often misjudge a motorcyclist’s speed.
In this case, one family has lost a loved one. Depending on the extent of his or her injuries, the other rider’s life may never be the same again. As the investigation continues, the victims of this accident should be aware of their legal options.
