Make motorcycle safety a priority

On Behalf of | Jun 10, 2024 | Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycles are undoubtedly appealing due to their coolness, enjoyment factor and high fuel efficiency. However, it is a fact that riding a motorcycle is significantly more dangerous than driving a car. Statistically, the fatality rate for motorcyclists involved in crashes is over 30 times higher than that of motorists.

Staying safe while riding your motorcycle takes concentration and awareness of the other vehicles around you. Compared to automobiles and trucks, they are much less resistant to the impact of collisions. Additionally, motorcyclists are visibly less noticeable to both drivers and pedestrians and are less stable than vehicles with four wheels, especially if the weather is bad.

5 tips for a safer motorcycle ride

Fortunately, there are measures you can take to protect yourself while riding your motorcycle. Before you leave:

  1. Thoroughly inspect your bike by checking tire pressure, examining mirrors and inspecting lighting. Also check for loose bolts, leaks or any other mechanical risks.
  2. Know the laws and follow them. Always use signals to indicate turns and obey speed limits.
  3. Be cautious with nearby vehicles and maintain a safe distance for maneuverability. Also, be mindful of other drivers’ blind spots.
  4. Be vigilant when driving. Approach curves carefully and stay alert for gravel or other dangerous road conditions.
  5. It’s crucial to always wear a helmet to protect your head from potential injury in an accident. Your helmet could be the difference between life and death if you sustain an injury.

When you travel with a passenger, the rules also apply to them. Provide them with a helmet and make sure they firmly grasp onto your waist. Advise them to refrain from dangling their feet. If you are ever involved in an accident, seek assistance with recovering the expenses incurred from your medical costs and any resulting losses.
